When you order a pair of contacts for the first time you may not realize that you also need to purchase contact lens cleaner as well. When contact lenses are not cleaned properly they can start to develop a film that will cover the entire lens and affect the way that you see when you wear them. Another important reason to clean contact lenses is because it decreases the chance of an eye infection.

When you wear contacts day after day, they may develop microorganisms that include bacteria or fungi. These usually develop on the lens surface. After applying the contaminated contact to the eye you may develop an eye infection that will need to be treated by a doctor. During the time of treatment you may not be able to wear contacts in the affected eye.

  • Daily Cleaner is used to clean contact lenses daily to prevent bacteria and fungi from developing.
  • Hydrogen peroxide solution is used for disinfecting contact lenses. You will need to remember to rinse your lenses after cleaning in hydrogen peroxide solution to avoid pain in the eye.
  • Enzymatic Cleaner is used to remove protein build up on the lenses.

Each one of the contact lens cleaner does something different in order to clean the contact lens to make vision clear, prevent eye infections and irritation. In order to extend the life of a contact lens, always follow the doctor’s orders on how to clean your contacts.

Some of the contact lenses, like the disposable lenses, do not require some of the cleaning products. After a certain amount of time when the lens has been worn you can throw the contacts away and open up another pair. Although this may sound convenient it also costs more money. Ask your doctor if the disposable contacts are right for you.
