When choosing corrective lenses to assist your vision it is generally agreed that contact lenses are the ideal solution. However, to get the most out of your contact lenses it is important that you pay attention to their maintenance. Well cared for contact lenses will prevent both damage to your eyes and promote the efficient use of the lenses themselves. When embarking on the use of contact lenses you should ensure that you take the following steps. First of all make sure that your hands are thoroughly sanitized by cleaning them with a suitable cleanser and water. In order to prevent any leftover cleanser coming into contact with your eye you should use a fresh towel after washing and check that your hands are completely dry before inserting your contact lenses into your eyes. Failure to do so could result in inadvertantly introducing foreign bodies to the eye and causing irritation. To help the contact to be easily inserted into the eye you may find that by rubbing a little solution onto the contact will help the process. If fitting your contact lenses into your eye is problematic do not attempt to use force, but repeat the previous step. Whilst your contact lenses are not being used, which is generally overnight, they should always be placed in solution. The reason for this being that if the protein from your eye, that has adhered to your lenses, is not removed by solution you will encounter some problems, such as dry eyes which could prove injurious. It is important to remember that you new solution should be used each time you soak your contact lenses. Contact lenses solutions vary in composition to some degree and if you find that the solution you are currently using is causing any kind of irritation it should be discarded. This situation is not unusual but If this does occur it is advisable to try an alternative solution that may be more suitable for your eyes and will remedy the problem. Some contact lens wearers experience the problem lack of moisture to the eyes leaving them feeling dry and irritated. Should this happen it is a good idea to use a saline solution or drops that will relieve the drying effect of the contact lenses. If you find that you have felt eye dryness it is a good idea to make sure that drops or solution are available at all times. The use of both the saline solution will solve the problem and ensure that your eyes feel hydrated and comfortable. When you have had your first consultation with your optician you will be advised by on the care and maintenance of your contact lenses.
